According to the Star Wars
Chicks webpage, women, girls, and other people of the female
persuasion make up forty-one percent of the Star Wars fan base...
So how come we're being overlooked so much? Thankfully there are
girlie Star Wars shirts out there - I practically live in my Queen Amidala
tank top, and there's a Class of '77 Leia shirt I haven't had the money
yet to buy - but we are, for the most part, ignored. Even my favorite
Jedi, Ewan McGregor (yummy Obi-Wan yummy), doesn't understand...
Star Wars speaks as much (if not more!) to women as it does to guys!
Look at the strong female characters... start off with Princess Leia, who, despite the skirt, got Luke, Han, and Chewie (notice: all male) out of the shootout in Leia's cell block in A New Hope. And now we have Queen Amidala, who is as strong and steadfast in her beliefs as anyone could be - once again, despite the insane (but gorgeous : ) coifs and gowns. In a summer free of any other good female role models, Amidala has been influencing the lives of countless young girls.
So it's past time that we Star Wars women spoke up! I personally am sick of being looked at strangely by movie theatre ticket-takers and toy store clerks! It is with indescribable pride that I will wear my padawan braid and scar of remembrance this Fan Day! How about you?
and enter the world of female Star Wars fans!!!
Wanna talk back?
